Freshly baked Blackbird Pie hanging-decorations! Come and get them whilst they’re hot!
A little bit of fun, each individually hand-made wool felt ‘arty’ pie contains two rudely-healthy woollen blackbirds. One has begun to sing and the other… well, they are looking grumpy and suspicious but who can blame them.
Hand-stitched, each pie has a shallow relief, created using pure wool padding between the backing and bird pie felt shapes. Then the golden pie-crust and the blackbirds themselves have needle felted ‘painted’ wool details, to bring them to life. Both birds have a glinting hand-made and hand-painted resin eye, that catches the light and brings out their character.
I have kept two quirky Blackbird Pies, one is the original prototype sitting atop a picture frame of Mr Punch. The other is pictured here in my front room, a fun decorative detail to catch my visitors’ eye and make them smile. I have sung the nursery rhyme a fair few times to over-seas and younger guests, and I plan to pop the pies onto my Christmas Tree as a decoration during the festive season.

Each blackbird and pie is hand-made slowly and one at a time, so there are always slight variations between every single pie - that is what makes them unique. A little, fun bird-art piece for never quite fully grown-ups to treasure forever.
